Successful Launch of ClimateWatch Australia!

23/09/08

Earthwatch Australia, a not-for-profit environmental research organisation, has successfully launched the ClimateWatch website.

The first project of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, ClimateWatch has the potential to provide the basis for understanding the impacts of climate change on Australia’s unique ecosystems and to inspire a generation of ‘citizen scientists’.

Biologists predict that globally over a million species are threatened with extinction as a result of climate change. In response to these challenges, Earthwatch has partnered with the Bureau of Meteorology, University of Melbourne and Land and Water Australia to establish ClimateWatch.

ClimateWatch, a climate change monitoring web-based program, allows ordinary Australians to get hands-on in the fight against climate change by merely observing nature; either from their own backyard, while bushwalking or at school.

The monitoring program will start in early 2009. To subscribe to our newsletter and learn more about ClimateWatch visit www.climatewatch.net.au or call Earthwatch on 03 9682 6828.
